RIOS MAULS ALVARADO
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Jan 2015

Brandon ?Bam Bam? Rios annihilated Mike ?Mile High? Alvarado bringing the Denver, Colorado fighter crashing down to earth in their third meeting before a hometown crowd some of whom booed Alvarado for his lackluster performance.
In a fight that was expected to approximate the classic wars between Mickey Ward and Arturo Gatti, Alvarado appeared to have nothing to offer as Rios battered Alvarado and stopped him after three rounds in a one-sided hammering.
Rios who lost a lopsided twelve round decision to eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao in Pacquiao?s first comeback fight in Macau following his crushing 6th round knockout at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez, started off aggressively and bloodied Alvarado in the opening round.
Rios kept the pressure on Alvarado in round two nailing the hometown fighter with vicious uppercuts before Alvarado bought some time when he caught Rios with a blatant low blow.
Rios eventually dropped Alvarado with another deadly uppercut in round three and although Alvarado beat the count he appeared to be a finished fighter.
His corner tried to push him into continuing in round four but the ring doctor checked on the battered Alvarado, raised two fingers in front of him and asked him how many he saw and when Alvarado replied ?four? the doctor told referee Jay Nady he couldn?t continue and Nady mercifully called a halt.
In a post fight interview Rios said ?I had to come prepared, because this could have been the end of my career. I have a lot of gas in my tank still, and I didn't want that. I just had to be patient."
Alvarado claimed he was not done yet and said "I wasn't training like I should have. That's what I get! I gotta get back to the drawing board. I'm not at peace with myself, I'm not going to say I did everything I could to win. I didn't do everything I could. That's what I get."
