NBA --Hornets continue buzzing, hold off Heat, 78-76 By Eric Biasbas PhilBoxing.com Fri, 23 Jan 2015 CHARLOTTE -- The Charlotte Hornets notched their 8th win in nine games, beating Miami Heat 78-76 at the Time Warner Cable Arena. The Heat played catch up most of the way but still had a chance to win it in the last play. After Chris Bosh drove past Cody Zeller for a lay up to make it 77-76, Kemba Walker was fouled and made one of two free throws, making it 78-76 with 12 seconds remaining. After a timeout, the Heat went for the win, but Bosh airballed a 3 point attempt and Mario Chalmers scrambled for the rebound but missed another 3 point shot as time expired. " I didn't have my feet under me, I rushed the shot and it was a bad miss." an obviously dejected Chris Bosh said. It was a defensive game all the way as both teams shot poorly from the field. Hornets shot 33.8 percent (27 of 80 field goals) while the Heat shot 34.5 percent (29 of 84 field goals). The Hornets had a big edge in offensive rebounds 20-10 and 56-41 overall. "That was the game. That's how we won", Charlotte head coach Steve Clifford said. Losing coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters, "In the first half, we were getting our tails kicked, particularly the offensive rebounding area, loose balls, things of that nature, that really created the separation." Bismack Biyombo had another strong outing for the Hornets with 12 pts, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks. Kemba Walker who missed the previous two games because of a sore knee had 15 pts. while Al Jefferson, off the bench for the second time added 12 pts. Wade and Bosh both had 17 pts for the Heat. The surging Hornets have held their opponents under 100 points in ten consecutive games, the longest streak in the NBA this season. They have held their last three opponents to 80 points or less, the first team in the NBA to do so this season. They would look to improve their record (18-25) when they hit the road and take on another streaking team, the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. Meanwhile the Heat (18-24) will try to get back on winning track when they host the struggling Indiana Pacers, Jan 23. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Eric Biasbas. |
