The Philippines Ronald Pontillas was kmocked out in the 5th round of a scheduled twelve round bout for the WBO Asia Pacific lightweight interim title at the Pangsuma Sports Hall in West Borner Province in Indonesia.

Indonesian boxing writer Jeff Pamungkas reported that the IBO lightweight champion Daud ?Cino? Yordan was the aggressor from the opening bell with several clean shots to the face of Pontillas even as the Filipino responded with a few good counter punches in the opening round.

Yordan maintained his aggressiveness in the second round while the southpaw Pontillas tried to land solid left counter punches but appeared to fade in round three after he suffered a cut near his left eye Yordan went after Pontillas in round five and nailed him with some solid blows to the head and when Pontillas tried to cover up, Yordan attacked the body.

He connected with a looping left hook to the solar plexus which took the wind out of Pontillas who went down and failed to beat the count.

Pamungkas reported that Yordan who has a record of 33-3 with 24 knockouts aims to become the No. 1 contender for the WBO lightweight title and hopes to get a title shot after a couple of tune-up fights.

Prior to the fight before his hometown fans Yordan vowed that Pontillas would not survive more than ten rounds in his first fight after a layoff of more than one year, having beaten South Africa?s Sipho Taliwe by a split decision by a split decision in Australia to retain his IBO lightweight title on December 6 last year.

The popular Yordan kept his promise to give his hometown fans a spectacular show.

His coach Damianus Yordan predicted that Daud would ?take control of the match and dominate the fight.? He said in his opinion Lorenzo Villanueva whom Daud knocked out in the 2nd round was better than Pontillas.

Yordan sparred almost 200 rounds against southpaw counter-punchers.

The Jakarta Globe reported that Pontillas conceded that Daud was ?more famous and a better fighter than me but I will work hard in the fight.?
