Muhammad Ali hospitalized By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Mon, 22 Dec 2014 ![]() Boxing great Muhammad Ali suffered a health scare and was admitted to an undisclosed hospital Saturday because of Pneumonia. Ali,72, is being treated by his team of doctors according to his spokesman and that his prognosis is good. The illness was caught early and that the respected boxing champion is not expected to be in the hospital long. Ali was a three time heavyweight champ, an Olympic gold medalist in the 1960 Games in Rome and a cultural icon worldwide. Born Cassius Marcellus Clay and known as "The Greatest", Ali also suffers from Parkinson's Disease. He was involved in various historic matches of the sport, one of which was a trilogy with fellow boxing great, Joe Frazier. The third and final bout of that trilogy which was known as the "Thrilla in Manila" was held at The Araneta Coliseum in Quezon, City Philippines, on October 1, 1975 in what many consider as one, if not boxing's best fight. Ali won that thrilling rubber match with a hard earned 14th round TKO over Frazier, after Frazier's legendary trainer, Eddie Futch, decided to stop the fight to avoid further risk and damage to his boxer's well being from what has become a hard, tough and brutal contest between the two legends. "It was next to death." said Ali after the grueling match. The Ali Mall, a shopping mall beside the famed venue was named after him. It was the very first major shopping mall in the Philippines.
