 Petecio.
Jeju Island, South Korea- Power-punching Filipina Nesthy Petecio fought her second fight in as many days and notched another win in the AIBA World Women's Championships at the Halla Gymnasium here at the expense of Manel Meharzi of Algeria.
There was no doubt of the outcome as the Filipina bantamweight (57 kg.) repeatedly connected on combinations that rocked the head of the boxer touted to be the best in the Algerian line-up.
In the 3rd round, Petecio caught her opponent with three-shot combos punctuated with wicked rights that prompted the Russian referee to give the Algerian two standing 8-counts.
The judges scorecards saw it as a run-away win for the Davao del Sur lass with lopsided scores of 40-35, 40-34 and 40-35.
Not so fortunate was flyweight (51 kg.) Irish Magno who traded punches but fell short against 2012 World Championships silver medalist Terry Gordini. She bowed to the more experienced Italian fighter on identical scores of 36-40 on all three scorecards.
Current world light flyweight champion Josie Gabuco debuts in the tournament against Chinese-Taipei's Pin Meng-Chieh Tuesday.
The event, which attracted 280 boxers from 67 countries, ends Monday, November 24.
