TIBAY NG PINOY V: CABALQUINTO, PALICTE STOP FOES

PhilBoxing.com

Undisputed Philippine jr. welterweight champion Adones Cabalquinto and flashy Aston Palicte lived up to their early predictions by stopping their separate rivals in the Tibay ng Pinoy V held Saturday at the Almendras gym.

Cabalquinto, 23, landed countless left-right combinations to score a technical knockout at the end of the 8th round Pankorn Singwancha of Thailand and capture the vacant World Boxing Council Asian Boxing Council (WBC-ABCO) light welterweight title.
The native from Talaingod, Davao del Norte damaged his Thai's face with a deep cut on the left eyebrow and bloodied nose. Thai's corner which included former Philippine flyweight champion Raul Terado decided not to continue already with the scheduled 12-rounder fight after the 8th round.

"Nag-improved talaga si Adones. May mga kilos na rin siya na tulad kay Manny (Pacquiao). Inikotan nya kalaban after ng kanyang combination," said chief trainer Nonoy Neri of MP Boxing Gym Davao.

Cabalquinto remained undefeated with 18 straight wins with 11 by knockouts while Singwancha only suffered his second loss against 14 wins.

"Malakas din at matibay ang kalaban ko," said Cabalquinto.

Palicte, on the other hand, escaped from an attack at the corner to land a smashing right jab to the face of Genpaul Valero, who was thrown back helplessly flatflooded at the post.
Palicte, 22 scored the smashing knockout in 1:22 of the first round.

Former World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim champion Drian Francisco used his ring experience in hammering out a convicing unanimous decision against John Mark Apolinario of Maasim, Saranggani Province.

Francisco, who arrived from a four-month training in the United States under his new manager Justine Fortune, outboxed a never-say-die Apolinario throughout the 10-rounder.

The rest of the fighters under the MP Promotions USA LLC also all won their bouts.

Substitute Marvilou Aballe remained undefeated with a unanimous decision victory over Khunkiri Wor Visaruti of Thailand while Jay-Ar "Hitman" Inson pummelled to submission Phil Angcamor in the first round by a TKO.

Genesis Libranza scored a technical knockout over Charlie Cabilla in 2:30 of the 2nd round.

Three others Jonel Dapidran, Rene Mark Cuarto and Aries Benavidez all won by unanimous decisions.

Dapidran survived against Hagibis Quinonez while Cuarto and Benavidez outclassed Jayson Sanchez and Sammy Caballero, respectively.

In the other bouts, Jay-R Edurot of JC Mananguil Stable-GenSan City settled to a split draw with former Philippine Boxing Federation miniflyweight champion Philip Parcon of Koronadal City while Marquil Salvana of Dexter Tan Stable-GenSan beat Paolo Perono by a UD.

The "Tibay ng Pinoy V" boxing card was witnessed by a jampacked crowd that included 8-world division champion Manny Pacquiao's adviser Michael Konz and Thai boxing promoter-manager Naris Singwancha.

The event, which was again free to the public, was promoted by MP Promotions USA LLC in coordination with the Joven Jimenez Promotions. It was supported by Pepsi, Sting, Cerritos Mitsubishi, Southcoast Mitsubishi, The Royal Mandaya Hotel and the city government of Davao. - LITO DELOS REYES
