PhilBoxing.com

Ex-WBA champ Drian Francisco added

THE official weigh-in of the Tibay ng Pinoy V is slated Nov. 7, Friday at 10 a.m. at the mezzanine floor of The Royal Mandaya Hotel.
It will be handled by the officials and staff of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Southern Mindanao headed by their Officer-in-Charge Jaime Mata.

Mata, also supervisor of the World Boxing Council Asian Boxing Council (WBC-ABCO) will be assisted by field officer Kenneth Improso and ring physicians Dr. Edgar Tan and Dr. Arthur Carpentero.
Boxing promoter Joven Jimenez will spearhead the press conference right after the weigh-in.

MP Boxing Gym chief trainer Raides "Nonoy" Neri (also assistant Filipino trainer of 8-world division champion and Saranggani Province representative Manny Pacquiao), is expected to arrive from General Santos City to join his prized fighters.

Undisputed Philippine jr. welterweight king Adones Cabalquinto will finally meet for the first time his opponent Pankorn Singwangcha of Thailand for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council light welterweight crown.

Also pitted in the triple main-header are Aston Palicte and Gerpaul Valero. But their bout will no longer be an interim title-fight since they are only rated no. 9 and 11, respectively according to GAB boxing chief Dr. Nasser Cruz.

Cruz informed the GAB Davao office only last Tuesday afternoon.
"The champion Marco Demecillo, however, was already stripped of his title after his second request to extend his mandatory defense was no longer approved by GAB," said Mata.

Palicte and Valero will now only fight for 10 rounds in 115 lbs. weight limit.

However, former world champion WBA Interim bantamweight king Drian Francisco is also included in the undercard to fight John Mark Apolinario in a 10-rounder 115 pound bout.

Francisco, a native of Mindoro was formerly based in the US with Pacquiao's conditioning coach Justine Fortune as his manager.
"Drian is now also with the MP Boxing Promotions," said Jimenez, who bared that Pacquiao's boxing outfit plans to have more boxing promotions next year.

"Kung puede nga lang monthly para laging active ang mga boxers natin," he added.

Other bouts featured in the undercard are : Jonel Dapidran vs. Habigis Quinones (8 rds.-136 lbs.), Marvilou Aballe vs. Khunkhiri Wor Visaruth of Thailand (8 rds.-115 lbs.), Jay-Ar Inson vs. Phil Angcamor (8 rds.-135 lbs.), Genesis Libranza vs. Charlie Cabilla (8 rds.-109 lbs.), JR Edurot vs. Philip Parcon (6 rds.-122 lbs.), Marquil Salvana vs. Paolo Perono (6 rds.-122 lbs.), Rene Mark Cuarto vs. Jayson Sanchez (4 rds-105 lbs.), Aries Benavides vs. Sammy Caballero (4 rds.-113 lbs.).

The boxing card, which is free to the public, is sponsored by Mitsubishi, Pepsi and The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Cerritos and the city government of Davao. - LITO DELOS REYES
