PhilBoxing.com Wed, 29 Oct 2014

Powered by six amateur boxers from the ALA Gym, the Mandaue City boxing team ruled the recent Batang Pinoy Regional tournament held in Kalibo, Aklan by gathering five (5) gold medals and two (2) bronze enroute to winning the over-all championship trophy.
The erstwhile trio of perennial medalists, John Nino Vega (36 kgs), Vicente Sios-e (46 kg) and last year's Batang Pinoy National Champion, Dominique Casanara (52 kgs) led the Mandaue City boxing team in their dominance over their closest rival, Cebu City which ended up with a first runner ?up honor with three (3) Golds and one silver and a bronze.
Two other ALA Gym boxers, Danrick Sumabong ( 52 kgs.) and Carl Cortes (54 kgs) also contributed to the impressive harvest of five (5) glittering golds for the Mandaue City contingent.
Patrick Gantuangco of ALA Gym and Reiner Rana of Phil-Aust Boxing were the two (2) Bronze medalists of Team Mandaue.
The supremacy of the Mandaue City Boxing Team during the Visayas Regional Boxing Tournament can be attributed to the all-year round grass-root program of ALA Gym and Phil-Aust Boxing Gym under the tutelage of coach Rei Munez of ALA Gym and Edcel Tunacao of Phil-Aus.
The boxing team is expected to make a courtesy call to Mayor Cortes to be arranged by Mandaue City Sports Commission Executive Director, Engineer Ricardo Mendoza whose presence during the tournament inspired the Mandaue pugilist to victory.
