Former OPBF welter champ Rev 'Gentle Giant" Santillan made a triumphant ring return with a seventh-round technical knockout win yesterday over Japanese Yoshiharu Ikeda at Tokyo's Korakuen Hall.
The bout was stopped at 1:37 of the seventh round, as Santillan showed he's a much better fighter than the game Ikeda.
Santillan was using this bout as a stepping stone to yet another crack at his old OPBF title, which he lost to Motoki Sasaki in February.
The southpaw Ikeda, who at 6 feet is an inch taller than Santillan, could not use his vaunted knockout power against Santillan.
Santillan, the Iloilo City-raised fighter, improved his record to 25 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw, 18 KO's.
A highly-anticipated rematch between Santillan and Sasaki should be in the offing.
