Andy Cruz is a free agent, will he drop down to super featherweight?

It has been learned that the 30-year-old Cuban boxer Andy Cruz (7-1, 6 KOs) has ended his promotional contract with Matchroom Boxing and is apparently currently a free agent.

Cruz had a stellar Olympic career, culminating in a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Cruz made his professional boxing debut in a ten-round bout in July 2023 against the experienced Mexican Juan Carlos Burgos, and his only loss was a majority decision for the IBF lightweight world championship against American champion Raymond Muratalla in January 2026.

Following his victory in July of this year against Mexican Abraham Montoya in Carson, California, there had been talk of a possible drop down to super featherweight in pursuit of a world championship opportunity.

Following his departure from Matchroom Boxing, he has options to sign with a promoter such as Golden Boy Promotions, Top Rank, Premier Boxing Champions, and Zuffa Boxing, among others, remained.
