Able to fluctuate between weight classes, WBO Latino Super Middleweight champion Sousa was last seen in a surprisingly tough fight against former world title challenger Johan Gonzalez in April at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The 28-year-old suffered the first knockdown of his career, either as an amateur or professional, in round three from a heavy right hand, but managed to remain calm and use his superior skills to earn a close, but unanimous decision by scores of 96-93 twice and 95-94.

2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Sousa has vowed to be a much better version of himself against 27-year-old Adame Chio, who will be having his first fight outside his homeland.

This will be Sousa’s fourth appearance on ProBoxTV.

In the co-main event, former IBF featherweight world champion Luis Alberto Lopez, 32-3 (19 KOs) of Baja California, Mexico, will make his ProBox Promotions debut against rugged contender Daniel Lugo, 28-4-1 (19 KOs), of Sonora, Mexico.

WBO No. 6- and IBF No. 13-ranked “Venado” Lopez will be fighting for the third time since losing his IBF title to fellow ProBox Promotions stablemate Angelo Leo in August 2024.

In the chief supporting bout, undefeated junior-lightweights Dominic Valle, 13-0 (7 KOs), of Lutz, Florida, and Francois Scarboro Jnr, 14-0 (9 KOs), of Cheverly, Maryland, will collide with someone’s 0 on the line in a battle between rising prospects.

In the televised opener, Top Rank’s undefeated Julian Montalvo, 7-0 (5 KOs), will face Anthony Cruz Herrera, 4-1, in a super featherweight six-rounder.

Santillan-Baraou is presented in association with Top Rank.
