CEBU CITY, Philippines, Aug. 12, 2026 — The Philippine Boxing Ring Officials of Central Visayas (PBO‑CV) convened here Wednesday, August 12, for its general meeting and election of officers, marking a new chapter in the region’s professional boxing governance.
Highly regarded ring official as and businessman Edgar Olalo secured the presidency by an overwhelming majority for the 2027-2028 two‑year term, pledging to uphold integrity, professionalism, and unity across Central Visayas officiating ranks.

KEY DECISIONS & POLICY DIRECTIONS
The assembly addressed regulatory, administrative, and organizational priorities:
1. Support for the Philippine Boxing Federation
Acting on guidance from the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), PBO‑CV formally affirmed its backing of the Philippine Boxing Federation, recognizing it as a long‑established and respected institution within the national boxing community.
2. GAB Convention in Bohol
Members were briefed on the upcoming GAB Convention, scheduled for September 2026 in Panglao, Bohol. Delegates will attend at personal expense, and the group agreed to travel collectively.
3. Fee Structure Formalized
To ensure operational stability and sustainable services, a revised contribution schedule for all accredited officials was approved and takes effect immediately.
4. Insurance Coverage Continues
PBO‑CV confirmed uninterrupted group insurance coverage for all accredited officials, ensuring welfare and protection in the performance of ring duties.
5. Former member Carlos Costa was welcomed back to PBO-CV by unanimous decision.
ELECTION RESULTS — 2027 TERM
All positions were filled through open nomination, formal seconding, and recorded balloting in full view of the membership.
The outcome places experience and long‑standing service at the helm:
- President — Edgar Olalo: The seasoned Cebu boxing judge was elected by a decisive vote, bringing proven officiating experience to the role. He will formally assume office January 1, 2027, serving thru December 31, 2028.
- Vice‑President — Antonio “Tony” Pesons: One of the most respected figures in Philippine boxing, Pesons was elected as he marks his 47th year as a licensed ring official — a milestone reflecting unmatched dedication and service. The beloved, Award-Winning Tony Pesons is a legend and an idol in Cebu boxing.
- Secretary‑General — Nic Banal: The highly regarded referee will continue in the post, bringing continuity and administrative expertise. Nic Banal was the creator of the good-looking PBO-CV logo.
- Treasurer — Rolando “Lando” Mendoza: Elected to oversee organizational finances.
- Media Officer — Carlos Costa: Appointed to manage communications and public information.
PRESIDENT‑ELECT OLALO: “UNITED IN SERVICE, ONE IN PURPOSE IN SERVING BOXING”
Upon his election, Edgar Olalo addressed the assembly with a message centered on unity, service, and shared commitment:
“I am deeply honored by the confidence placed in me by my fellow officials. This election represents more than a change in leadership — it reflects our shared commitment to excellence, brotherhood, and unity.
“Together with all my brothers in officiating, I pledge to uphold the highest standards in the ring, ensure strict compliance with GAB regulations, and serve every official with fairness and dedication.
“I give you my heart: I will strive to serve every boxing official across Central Visayas to the best of my ability.
"This extends also to our fellow officials in other groups. My sincere hope is that we may build the strongest brotherly bond, and that in time we become once again one united, harmonious family — because deep down, we are all brothers bound by the same love and passion for boxing.
“Central Visayas is our home. Our children live here. It will always be our greatest honor to serve Philippine boxing.”
