MANILA, Philippines -- 13-time Philippine Open champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" M. Antonio Jr. and Grandmaster Darwin R. Laylo received invitations from Mr. Blair Rutter, President, Manitoba Chess Association, which organized the upcoming chess event dubbed as Manitoba meets Manila chess tournament to be held on June 26 to 28, 2020 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Other Filipino woodpushers invited were Arena Grandmaster Roberto R. Suelo Jr., Arena Grandmaster Almario Marlon Q. Bernardino Jr., Fide Master Nelson H. Villanueva, National Master Romeo M. Alcodia, Candiate Masters
Alfredo M. Paez, Dandel I. Fernandez and Christian Peter M. Aristorenas.
"This tournament is being held to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Province of Manitoba, the 125th anniversary of the Manitoba Chess Association and approximately 50 years since the arrival of the Manitoba Chess Association and approximately 50 years since the arrival of the first Filipinos in Manitoba. As you may know, Manitoba is now home to one of the largest Filipino communities in Canada," said Mr. Blair Rutter, President, Manitoba Chess Association.-Marlon Bernardino-
