Mike Plania of the Sanman Gym of Gen. Santos City kept his unbeaten record with a decision win against Roel Lazaro Perez of Mexico.
"I am very happy with my first victory overseas. Good experience for me and Mexican fighters are always tough," Plania told philboxing in an e-mail message.
This was the first overseas outing for the 20 year old Plania who is now 15-0, 7KOs. Plania has a WBF International bantamweight title belt and together with his Sanman gym teammates, spent time sharpening his skills under a Cuban coach in Florida. His fight against Perez was in Quintana Roo, Mexico.
The split decision drops Perez's record to 5-11-1, 2KOs. The scores were 59-55, 60-54 for Plania and 58-56 for Perez in the six rounder.
