EX BOXER AUGUSTUS ON LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEM AFTER BEING SHOT IN THE HEAD

Augustus.
Former pro boxer Emmanuel Augustus whose birth name was Emmanuel Burton is on a life support system after being shot in the head in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Ben Wallace of The Advocate quoted police as saying Augustus was shot not far from the North 14th Street Park boxing gym where he grew up training ? a gym he returned to in the last few years after moving back to Baton Rouge following a lengthy boxing career which included a clash with current pound for pound No. 1 Floyd Mayweather Jr.
A pair of red boxing gloves were found in the street where Augustus was shot. A plastic bag filled with unknown objects also sat near the gloves in a bloody section of the street.
Dan Rafael of ESPN reported that in 2000 Augustus who was known as ?The Drunken Master? liked to showboat and act like he was drunk as he danced around the ring. Faced then lightweight Mayweather and gave him a very tough fight before losing by a 9th round knockout in a non-title bout in Detroit.
Mayweather has often said that Augustus gave him his toughest fight.
The 38 year old Augustus was a light welterweight who ended is career with a record of 38-34-6 with 20 knockouts. He won a six round unanimous decision over Filipino Jun Paderna in New South Wales, Australia on May 30, 2008 and lost his last five fights including a 9th round TKO at the hands of Ruslan Provodnikov, the former sparring partner of ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao.
In his last bout on January 29, 2011 Augustus dropped a unanimous eight round decision to undefeated Vernon Paris who had a record of 23-0 wiyth 14 knockouts.
Cpl. Don Coppola, a police spokesman in Baton Rouge said Augustus remained in critical condition on Wednesday, Manila Time.
