EDEN SONSONA FACES SILVESTER LOPEZ IN CLASSIC MATCHUP By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 15 Oct 2014  Eden Sonsona. Former world rated prospect Eden ?Mr. Showboat? Sonsona, the aggressive southpaw eager to get back into the world rankings faces former WBC super flyweight Silver champion Silvester Lopez in a classic showdown on a Gerry Penalosa Promotion at the Mandaluyong City Gymnasium on October 25. Sonsona who appeared to be ahead in a battle with former two-time world title challenger Bernabe Concepcion at the same venue last July 26 which ended in a 3rd round technical no decision after an accidental clash of heads resulted in Concepcion suffering a nasty cut above his right eye, is determined to make a statement against Lopez, a tough contender from the stable of Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde. The talented 25 year old Sonsona who has a record of 32-6-2 with 10 knockouts stepped into the ring after a one yearn layoff following a 4th round technical no decision against Daniel Ferreras on July 27, 2013 and is determined to make sure the fight goes beyond four rounds this time and that he emerges the winner. The 26 year old Lopez who has a record of 22-8-2 with 16 knockouts was the leading sparring partner of Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire when Donaire trained in Manila for his WBA super champion title fight with Simpiwe Vetyeka of South Africa, is a solid fighter with an excellent jab and someone who is ready to brawl if he has to. Lopez reached the highpoint of his career to date when he stunned Mexico?s fancied Oscar Ibarra to score an 8th round TKO on September 24, 2011 in Mexico to win the WBC super flyweight Silver title. The Sonsona-Lopez ten round showdown is likely to steal the show from the main event where the 23 year old Aducal who has a record 8-3-2 with 6 knockouts will clash with Rivera who is also 23 and has a record of 7-1-2 with 2 knockouts. In his last fight Aducal won by an 8th round TKO over Lloyd Jardeliza must to the delight of host, Mayor Ben Hur Abalos who takes pride in the city?s grassroots development program in a known hotbed of boxing in Metro Manila.
