OLIVA SEEKS RE-MATCH WITH IBO CHAMPION MTHALANE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 06 Oct 2014  The manager of newly crowned World Boxing Federation Asia Pacific flyweight champion Jether ?The General? Oliva, Jim Claude Manangquil, is seeking a rematch with IBO flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane of South Africa who won by a split decision over Oliva when they met last March 15 at the International Convention Center in Durban, South Africa. Manangquil told the Manila Standard/Viva Sports after Oliva scored a lopsided decision over tough Indonesian Jemmy Gobel that Mthalane has a scheduled title defense against Mexico?s 29 year old Odilon Zaleta (15-4, 8 KO?s) on October 26 and Mthalane?s handlers agreed to discuss the rematch with Oliva after the Zaleta fight. Manangquil told the Standard that Oliva dominated Gobel in their ten round bout and put on a good performance against the Indon boxer who was a game opponent and never quit and kept punching back whenever Oliva took the fight to him. In Oliva?s loss to Mthalane, British judge Terry O?Connor had Mthalane winning 116-112 while South African judge Alan Matakane had it by a wider 117-112 for Mathalane which offset Filipino judge Danrex Tapdasan who scored the fight for Oliva 115-113. Super Sport reported that ?Manny Pacquiao would have been proud of his countryman?s courage and positive attitude but Floyd Mayweather Jr would have given Mthalane points for his defense and the way he maintained his concentration in a hugely entertaining bout.? Oliva in contrast to Mthalane who held his gloves up high in a peek-a-boo style, kept his hands low and showed little head movement which allowed Mthalane to pick up points throughout the highly competitive bout but Super Sport said ?there were times when Oliva?s hand-speed enabled him to land telling blows? with Mthalane ending the fight with both eyes almost shut.
