WBC LISTS PACQUIAO AMONG FOUR POSSIBLE MAYWEATHER OPPONENTS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 16 Sep 2014 The World Boxing Council has listed ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao among four possible opponents for undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr who is the current WBC welterweight and super welterweight champion as well as the WBA super welterweight champion. The WBC said that following his unanimous twelve round decision win in a rematch with Marcus Maidana, Mayweather ?is pondering a new opponent.? The organization said ?Manny Pacquiao - The Filipino sensation has a pending issue with Chris Algieri on November 22nd in China. Depending on the result, Pacquiao could be finally placed at the portals of Mayweather. It would be one of the most attractive events in current boxing history.? Mayweather himself in a post fight interview with Jim Gray after beating Maidana said ?I?ll go back and talk to my team and see what we can assess. If it presents itself let?s make it happen.? At the same time Mayweather emphasized that ?Manny has to focus on the guy in front of him (undefeated WBO light welterweight Chris Algieri). Once he gets past that task let?s see what the future holds.? The WBC listed Britain?s WBC Silver welterweight champion Amir Khan who is ranked No. 1 by the WBC and who called out Mayweather after the Maidana fight, as a fighter with ?a considerable number of fans on both sides of the Atlantic. Some opinion considers his hand speed could generate awkward problems for Mayweather.? Also mentioned among the four possible opponents were WBA No.1 ranked Keith Thurman and WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto who gave Mayweather a tough time when they first met. Referring to Thurman, the WBC said ?he is a skilled fighter who is on track to become a future star in the division. However, he lacks experience and is perhaps not yet well known enough for such a mega event.? Turning to Cotto, the World Boxing Council noted the Puerto Rican, who's also a superstar, gave Mayweather a tremendous fight in the past. In some rounds he managed to significantly land. Miguel stopped Sergio Martinez last May, conquering the WBC middleweight championship, so he's a strong candidate, and could shed weight to return to this division.?
