QUIGG RETAINS WBA TITLE WITH 3RD ROUND TKO OF JAMOYE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 15 Sep 2014 World Boxing Association super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg of Britain has retained his title with an impressive 3rd round TKO of challenger Stephane Jamoye of Belgium who was a late replacement for former WBO bantamweight champion Paulus Ambunda of Namibia at the Manchester Arena. Jamoye started strong but Quigg stopped him in his tracks with some solid body shots nearing the end of round one. The challenger refused to back off and opened up with a solid combination at the start of round two but similar to the opening round, Quigg ended with a barrage of hooks to the head and body of Jamoye. In the third round Sky News in London reported that Quigg halted his man in brutal fashion connecting with three stiff punches that forced Jamoye to back off into the ropes where a huge body shot sent the challenger crumbling to the canvas and although he staggered to his feet referee Terry O? Connor decided he had seen enough and stopped the fight at 1:13 of the third round. With the win Quigg improved his undefeated record to 29-0-2 with 22 knockouts while Jamoye, nicknamed ?Survivor? dropped to 26-6 with 16 knockouts. He won the title with a 2nd round stoppage of Diego Oscar Silva of Argentina in November 2013. Quigg is the same fighter who sparred with WBO No. 2 and IBF No. 9 ranked Genesis ?Azukal? Servania at the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach last January 19. Trainer Edito ?Ala? Villamor told the Manila Standard/Viva Sports after the sparring session that the two fighters went ?toe to toe in a well applauded four rounds of sparring.? Villamor said ?they entertained onlookers with their torrid exchange of blows with no let up? and both Quigg and Servania complimented each other after the sparring session.
