EX PACQUIAO SPARRING PARTNER PORTER LOSES IBF TITLE TO BROOK By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 17 Aug 2014  Brook wins. Former Manny Pacquiao sparring partner Shawn ?Showtime? Porter has lost his IBF welterweight title to Britain?s Kell Brook who fulfilled a childhood dream by winning a majority decision at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Porter started aggressively but Brook who suffered a cut above his left eye in the second round connected with the cleaner punches and was effective in catching the solidly built Porter as the American charged forward and tried to work on the inside but Brook connected with effective left hook counters and some solid uppercuts. Boxing Scene reported that as the bout entered the championship rounds Brook had the momentum and looked like he landed the more telling blows, remained composed and had more energy while Porter?s punches lacked sting. Surprisingly British judge Dave Parris scored the fight an even 114-114 which was overwhelmed by American judges Adalaide Byrd who had Brook winning by a 116-112 margin while Max Deluca scored it for the Brit by an even wider 117-111 that sparked wild celebrations in his corner while a small band of travelling supporters cheered wildly after the decision was announced. Porter showed nowhere near the form he demonstrated in winning the title from Devon Alexander and more so in his stunning 4th round TKO victory over Paulie Malinaggi last April 19. Porterwho suffered a cut in the 6th round as a result of an accidental head-butt was warned more than once by referee Pat Russel for going in, head first but Brook was unfazed and looked the stronger in the championship rounds and even showed flashes of aggressiveness. In a post fight interview Brook said ?you can tell how much this means to me. From nine year old I?ve dreamed of being a world champion. I was born to do this, I always find a way. I always deliver.? With the win Brook retained his unbeaten record to improve to 33-0 with 22 knockouts while Porter who dropped to 24-1-1 with 15 knockouts claimed that while he was not making any excuses he accused Brook of ?holding for more than half the rounds.
