COTTO AND MARTINEZ PROMISE A REAL WAR By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 05 Jun 2014 Three division world champion Miguel Cotto and WBC middleweight champion Sergio ?Maravilla? Martinez have promised ?a real war? when they clash at New York?s famed Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Manila Time. At their final pre-fight press conference Martinez, the reigning champion from Argentina said ?I come prepared. I come to box. I come to fight. I come to be in a war. On Saturday (New York time) we?ll finish ther talking and see the reality.? Cotto replied saying ?I?m prepared for a war. Its good for us to hear Sergio is ready for a war too because that?s what people are gonna see. A real war.? The WBC reported that Cotto looked sharp during a media workout on Wednesday at the Everlast Lab in Hoboken, New Jersey. The Puerto Rican idol is putting the finishing touches to preparations for his eagerly-anticipated world title clash against Martinez and noted that a win would secure Cotto's fourth division title, making him the first boxer of Puerto Rican decent to do so. Cotto told the WBC ?Everything is ready for this Saturday and it?s only a matter for the bell to ring to put all this work and strategy to use in the ring.? Cotto lost by a 12th round TKO to ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao in a catch-weight bout in 2009 and is now trained by Freddie Roach who described the Puerto Rican as a most disciplined fighter. Cotto said ?I know I have a great chance via this powerful challenge and that?s why I worked so hard these last ten weeks. Preparation is the key to victories on the day of the fight and this will be no exception. I'm going to put on a fantastic show for all of my fans.? Cotto?s Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach added, ?This second camp was much better than the first now that we know each other better and I believe that we?ve achieved everything we wanted to do for this fight. Miguel is strong, has plenty of experience in big fights and will come out with his arm raised.? Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ronnie Nathanielsz. |
