SUCO BATTERED IN GAB SANCTIONED MISMATCH By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 28 Apr 2014 ![]() Filipino bantamweight Ranel Suco has been battered and beaten by Mexico?s WBC Silver champion Julio ?Polito? Ceja at the Foro Polanco in Mexico City in a Philippines Games and Amusements Board sanctioned mismatch, once again raising questions about the basis for GAB?s approval of fights. Ceja, a devastating puncher, dropped Suco who is not even ranked by the GAB in rounds three and again in round five before battering the game Filipino in the tenth, forcing referee Gelacio Perez to stop the massacre at 2:48 of the round when Ceja had Suco against the ropes and hammered him with a series of hard punches. Ceja?s record of 25 knockouts in 27 wins with one draw was obviously far too good for Suco who dropped to 15-8-2 with 6 knockouts. Suco was coming off a twelve round unanimous decision over Prell Tupaz to win the WBC Asian Boxing Council interim featherweight title on August 19. Tupaz had a forgettable record of 8 wins against 20 defeats and 4 draws with only one knockout to his name. Ringside reports said Ceja, boxing beautifully but was stunned when the southpaw Suco caught him with a big left hook to the ribs in the second round and drove the Mexican champion against the ropes. However, the 20 year old Ceja nailed Suco with a long right to the jaw and dropped him in round three before sending him to the canvas once again in round five. Suco?s face began to swell and he slowed down as Ceja got to work and when he was caught by what was described as a sustained combination in round ten and was absorbing a lot of punishment, referee Perez decided he had seen enough and called a halt.
