NBA -- LeBron's career-high 61 propels Heat over Bobcats By Reynante Bulawan PhilBoxing.com Tue, 04 Mar 2014 ![]() MIAMI -- With Dwayne Wade being held out for precautionary measures and the usually reliable Chris Bosh struggling with his mid-range shot, the Miami Heat needed their masked superstar to carry the load. And like always, LeBron James embraced the challenge. The reigning back-to-back MVP scored a career-high 61 points to lead his team to a 124-107 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats Monday night at the American Airlines Arena. James' 61 points was a single game franchise record for the Heat, eclipsing the previous high of 56 scored by Glen Rice. The nimble 6-foot-8, 260-pound forward was simply unstoppable, making every conceivable shot -- jumpers, fast breaks, triples, free throws and dunks. . He made 22 of 33 field goals, 8-of-10 threes and 9-of-12 free throws. He also threw in seven rebounds and five assists. James unleashed 25 points in the third quarter and a total of 37 in the second half, both franchise records. He pulled up for 3s, blew past multiple defenders and pushed Miami to a seventh consecutive win. The Bobcats, who recently waived guard Ben Gordon, managed to keep the game close at the end of the first half, 60-54, thanks to Al Jefferson's 24 first-half points. Jefferson finished with 38 and 19 rebounds but spitfire Kemba Walker was held to seven points by Miami's guards led by Mario Chalmers .The Bobcats, ranked 7th in the Eastern Conference, couldn't contain LeBron even after resorting to double-teaming the four-time MVP as soon as he got to the Heat side of the court. Heat head coach Eric Spoelstra said in his post-game press conference that he thought of sitting James at the end of the third quarter for his routine rest but decided against it after feeling that his best player was on a roll and could hit anything he threw up in the air. "To be able to do it with a group of guys I would do anything for , means so much . These guys are true brothers" LeBron told reporters after his magical performance. " It's a surreal feeling for me right now. The excitement of the fans, showed me I was doing something special ." The Heat extended their winning streak to 16 games against Charlotte and this is the fourth consecutive year that they've swept their season series against the Michael Jordan-owned Bobcats. James and the Heat will travel to play the Houston Rockets tomorrow for the first of their two regular season meetings this month (RB).
