DANNY FLORES LOOMS AS OPPONENT FOR VILLANUEVA AFTER JUAN HERNANDEZ WAS INJURED By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 23 Feb 2014 23 year old Mexican Danny ?Venado? Flores looms as an opponent for undefeated WBO International super flyweight champion ?King Arthur? Villanueva (24-0, 14 KO?s) after Juan Hernandez had to pull-out following a motorcycle accident the other day. Flores has a record 14-5-1 with 8 knockouts who, in his last fight on November 2, 2013 lost by a 9th round TKO to undefeated southpaw Vladimir Tikhonov (10-0, 5 KO?s). After dropping a split decision to David Carmona in a WBO Youth super flyweight title fight on May 18, 2013, the two clashed again in July in what boxingscene.com described as ?an entertaining super flyweight rematch cut short after less than three rounds of action.? Jake Donovan reported that ?an unintentional headbutt left Flores with a nasty cut around his right eye, forcing an end to their Telemundo-televised main event after just seven-plus minutes of action. The pair of familiar foes - both of whom hail from Mexico City - figured to pick up where they left off in their spirited 12-round brawl just seven weeks ago. Flores came out on the wrong end of a tightly contested split decision on that night, and didn't want to leave anything to chance.? He said Carmona struggled to deal with his opponent's (Flores?s) aggression, barely surviving the opening round before buckling down and claiming momentum in round two. The first fight saw Carmona forced to contend with blood flowing from the fifth round onward due to a headbutt from Flores. This time around, it was Flores who was left scarred, as a clash of heads left the 23-year old with a cut around his right eye. Unlike the first fight, the head-butt-induced wound was deemed too severe to continue, bringing an end to their night barely a minute into the third round. Villanueva sees action in an exciting fight card aptly termed THE FUTURE IS NOW, along with unbeaten WBO Intercontinental super bantamweight champion Genesis ?Azukal? Servania in the top rating ?Pinoy Pride? series of ALA Promotions and the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN at the plush Solaire Resort Hotel and Casino on March 1. The 22 year old Servania who is undefeated in 23 fights with 9 knockouts battles former WBA champion Alexander ?El Explosivo? Munoz of Venezuela who won the title from Japan?s Katsushige Kawashima on January 14, 2008. Munoz is an experienced fighter with a record of 36-5 with 28 knockouts. Servania is coming off an impressive 2nd round TKO over former WBA bantamweight interim champion Rafael Concepcion of Panama last October 26.
