Celski.
Filipino-Polish skater JR Celski will be the second athlete carrying the Philippine colors who will compete in the Sochi Winter Olympic Games today.
Celski will race in the 1500 meters Short Track event and TV 5 Sports says ?there really are very high expectations for Celski in this event.?
He will compete in the heats at 5:45 p,m., the semi finals at 7:04 p.m. and the finals, should he qualify, at 8:05 p.m.
The events will be telecast live on AKSYON TV & HYPER while TV5 promises it will try do the live airing of JR Celski's races.
Based on research, a Short Track 1500m race is usually 2-3 minutes long. In 2010, JR Celski won the Bronze Medal in the Olympic Games with a time of 2:18.
Wikipedia, in a backgrounder on Celski says ?At the 2010 Winter Olympics, Celski (who represented the USA) won bronze in the 1500 m and the 5000 m relay. His bronze medal in the 1500 m was a result of two Korean skaters crashing into each other. Leading into the crash, he was in fifth place.[1] Five months before the Olympics, Celski suffered a gruesome injury when he fell during a race and his right skate blade gashed his left thigh and was uncertain if he would compete at the Olympics.
Celski's breakthrough performance was at the 2009 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships where he won five medals (two gold, one silver, two bronze). Overall, Celski has won two gold medals, two silver medals, and four bronze medals at the World Championships. He also has one bronze medal at the World Team Championships and five medals (two gold, one silver, three bronze) at the World Junior Championships.
