Leyte Sports Academy with 31 athletes who survived Supertyphoon ?Yolanda," who were adopted by the Philippine Sports Commission and trained with some national athletes came out strong in athletics in the Batang Pinoy National Finals in Bacolod City.

Fil-American Karen Janario won the 200m in 25.7 seconds and improved the 2012 mark of 26.4 seconds set by fellow LSA fellow LSA runner Leah Joan Creer in Iloilo City. Janario also anchored the team of Rosemarie Olorvida, Feiza Lenton and Gemmalyn Fino in winning the gold medal in the 4?400 relay. She had collected five golds including wins in 100m dash, 100m hurdles and 4?100 with the same teammates.

?My dream is to compete in the Olympics,? said the 5-foot-6 Janario and according to PSC commissioner Jolly Gomez she might be sent to the United States for intensive training. "She's a future Olympian and would soon follow the footsteps of Lydia de Vega," said Dr. Lucrecio Calo, former PSC Executive Director and founder of the LSA.

Mary Flor Diaz of Zamboanga City broke the girls 44-kilogram mark in snatch, clean and jerk, and total registering 54-62-119 in girls' weightlifting. Her record broken by Diaz, Eilen Rose Perez established a new record in winning the 48kg gold, with lifts of 57-62-119.

Brothers Evangelito Dale and Jhon Febuar Ceniza of Cebu City also broke records in the boys' 42kg and 46kg divisions, respectively. Jhon posted 63-76-139, while Evangelito Dale marked 60-80-140.

Cebu City dominated lawn tennis with Jan Godfrey Seno, Zethley Alferez and Jana Pages grabbing the golds wth Seno in boys' singles, Alferez in girls' singles, and Alferez-Pages in girls' doubles. San Jose City?s Chris Justine Prulla and Baguio?s Neil Tangalin shared the boys' doubles gold medal with Iligan City?s Allen Manlangit and Kenneth Dumapit after the rain stopped their final match.

Lorenzo Jenkins Labao of Baguio City bagged the gold medals in the boys? 100-meter butterfly and 200m individual medley for ages 13-15 to become the most decorated athlete in the national finals. Baguio won 10 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals in swimming but was second only to Quezon City?s 14-11-2 medal haul in the pool.

?Because it?s cold in Baguio, only a few of us excelled in swimming,? said Labao. ?The pool there now is very cold at two degrees Celsius.? He also dominated the 400m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 400m individual medley, and the 200m medley and 200m freestyle relays with teammates Dan Christian Leyba, Renz Gawidan and Neil Nazarro.

Julius Constantino of Sta. Rosa, Laguna surpassed national pool reserve Frederick Albert Chiongbian of Cebu City for the boys? triathlon gold. Constantino broke away in the bike stage to clock 27 minutes in the 400m swim-8.4 km bike-2 km run course over Chiongbian who finished 27:34, 15 seconds. Nicole Eijansantos of Quezon City topped the girls? race in 29:50, besting Lauren Justine Plaza of Laguna with 30:05 and Victoria Deldio of Olongapo with 30:39.

Iloilo City swept nine of the 12 golds staked in arnis? anyo with Crystal AJ Bartonico claiming three wins in single weapon solo, double weapon solo, and sword and dagger solo. She also teamed with Ma. Chabelita Gonzaludo and Marjorie Pudadera to top the team single weapon, double weapon, and sword and dagger golds.

Host Bacoloc City won the gold in girls softball defeating Pasig, 6-3, which was awared the silver. Little League World Series veteran and tournament favorite Iloilo settled for the bronze.

Negros Occidental won the futsal gold, with Tanauan City and Gen. Santos City placing second and third. But Negros Occidental engaged in a fight`marred match with Maasin City in the eliminations which our team just forfeited even if it was a very close game just to secure our players. Earlier Maasin City lost to host Bacolod City, 3-4 in another tight match. Both hosts were already well-established football experts.
