SERVANIA GOES TO-TO-TOE IN SPARRING WITH WORLD CHAMPION By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 20 Jan 2014 Undefeated WBO Intercontinental super bantamweight champion Genesis "Azukal" Servania had the opportunity of going toe-to-toe with reigning WBA World Super bantamweight Champion, Scott Quigg of the United Kingdom in what was described as "a well-applauded 4 round sparring session." The sparring took place at the Wild Card Gym on Freddie Roach in Los Angeles with the 22 year old Servania who has a record of 23-0 with 9 knockouts refusing to be awed by the 25 year old world champion Quigg who has a record of 27-0-2 with 20 knockouts. Quigg won the world title with a 2nd round TKO of Argentine Diego Oscar Silva whom he dropped twice in round two to earn a stoppage at 1:41 of the round. Villamor told the Manila Standard that the fast-rising Servania and World Champion Quigg, who are both undefeated, "entertained the onlookers with their torrid exchange of blows with no let-up." Servania and Quigg complimented each other after sparring and agreed to spar again before Servania and Milan Melindo leave for Tijuana, Mexico next week to spar with roster of Mexican fighters. Former flyweight challenger Milan Melindo meantime sparred with former WBO/WBA flyweight champion Brian Viloria and former two time Chinese Olympic gold medalist and Freddie Roach protege Zou Shiming at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. Trainer Edito "Ala" Villamor in a brief note said Melindo held his own against the two top flyweights going two rounds with each of them. Melindo had earlier engaged a promising and undefeated Mexican in a previous sparring session where Villamor said "Milan simply concentrated on his defense and his methodical punching easing up from time to time against his younger sparmate."
