SUBSTITUTE BOXERS NO MATCH FOR SONNY BOY JARO, CONDES By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 13 Jan 2014 The substitute fighters sanctioned to replace the opponents of former WBC world flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro and IBF light flyweight champion Florante Condes proved to be no match in a fight card in Mandaluyong last Saturday with both replacement opponents losing by first round stoppages. Jaro scored a 1st round knockout over 22 year old Marzon Cabilla whose record dropped to 9-11-1 with 4 knockouts. It was Cabilla?s fourth loss in a row having lost by an 8th round TKO to Jerson Luzarito on December 8, 2012, an 8th round unanimous decision to Tetsuma Hayashi lasy July 6, 2013 and a 3rd round TKO to Juren Labordo in his last fight on October 12, 2013. Condes won by a 1st round TKO over 23 year old Charlie Cabilla whose record dropped to 13-13-4 with 2 knockouts. It was Charlie Cabilla?s fifth straight loss with his previous four defeats all being by TKO including a 1st round knockout to former world champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam on September 28, 2012 according to boxrec.com which means that Cabilla hadn?t fought for more than one year and three months. The new opponents were picked for Jaro and Condes after Games and Amusements Board chairman Ramon Guanzon refused to sanction the fights featuring the two former Filipino world champions and two opponents regarded as ?bums.? The Manila Standard raised the issue of the mismatches with chairman Guanzon on Tuesday, citing reports that former IBF light flyweight champion Florante ?Little Pacquiao? Condes who has a record of 25-8-1 with 21 knockouts was being matched against southpaw Rey ?Tiger? Morano who has a miserable ring record of 8 wins against 38 losses with one draw and one win by knockout, having lost 12 of his last 13 fights, while former WBC flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro whose record stands at 34-13-5 with 24 knockouts was set to face Pit Anacaya who had lost his last 15 fights and had a pathetic record of 8-22-2 with one knockout. However, to the consternation of fight fans the substitute were clearly no match for Jaro and Condes, once again raising serious questions about the GAB Boxing Division?s criteria in sanctioning fights. The Boxing Division is headed by Dr. Nasser Cruz who has often come under fire for sanctioning patent mismatches. Anacaya blamed his poor record on judges who deprived him of victory in some of his fights, accusing them on being ?blind.? In another mismatch light flyweight Jomar Fajardo (12-4-1, 5 KO?s) won the vacant title of the newly-formed Asian Boxing Federation with a 3rd round TKO over 21 year old Robel Villegas (9-8, 3 KO?) who was dropped twice in the third round before referee Ferdie Estrella called a halt.
