ALJOE JARO OBJECTS TO GAB?S DECISION TO DISALLOW MATCHES IN HIS FIGHT CARD PhilBoxing.com Wed, 08 Jan 2014 ![]() Promoter Aljoe Jaro e-mailed philboxing to voice his displeasure and air his side regarding the decision of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) not to sanction his fight card this Saturday. ?I made an application for this fight card and filed it with the GAB three weeks ago,? Jaro said, ?They should have looked at it and told me earlier that they will not sanction the fight.? Jaro is referring to the match-ups involving former world champions Sonny Boy Jaro and Florante Condes who will be facing journeymen with losing records in a boxing promotion scheduled in Mandaluyong City. Philboxing?s Ronnie Nathanielsz posted an article stating that GAB chairman Ramon Guanzon on Tuesday will not sanction the January 11 card, citing reports that former IBF light flyweight champion Florante ?Little Pacquiao? Condes who has a record of 25-8-1 with 21 knockouts, was being matched against southpaw Rey ?Tiger? Morano who has a record of 8 wins against 38 losses with one draw and one win by knockout having lost 12 of his last 13 fights, while former WBC flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro whose record stands at 34-13-5 with 24 knockouts was set to face Pit Anacaya who had lost his last 15 fights and an overall record of 8-22-2 with one knockout. ?They should have given my matchmaker enough time to find adequate replacements.? Jaro added, ?But I do believe that there was really no problem with this fight card. It was just because one man raised his objections and labeled the fights a mismatch, they immediately cancelled it. The GAB alone should be making these decisions, not someone outside the GAB. My promotion is just a few days away, and they would not sanction the fights.? ?These boxers with bad records also deserve a chance to fight,? Jaro continued, ?They have a valid license, they passed the medical tests. They want to stop their livelihood because of their records? These boxers have been training for a long time for this fight. This is a good opportunity for them. If I find substitutes who have good records but did not have adequate training and something bad happens, they will still blame me.? Jaor cited Sonny Boy Jaro?s upset KO win against long reigning WBC flyweight champ Pongsaklek Wonjongkam and his upset loss to Gerpaul Valero in Cebu last year as examples, ?No one gave Sonny Boy a chance against Pongsaklek, they said it was a mismatch. And he won. No one gave Valero a chance to beat Sonny Boy, and Valero won a split decision. We can never be too sure what happens in boxing. If a boxer with a losing record fights abroad, they criticize the match but if he wins, they heap praises on him.? ?The boxers matched in my card are almost equal when it comes to number of fights, Yes one has more losses than the other, but many boxers with bad record s became champions. We Filipinos should be helping each other instead of tearing each other down and criticizing each other.? Jaro said, ?I feel sorry for the boxers, they trained hard and suddenly the fight is disapproved just a few days before it is supposed to happen. Do they realize how hard it is to train for a fight? Instead of helping Filipino boxers, there are those who just want to ruin boxing here in the Philippines.? Photo: Promoter Aljoe Jaro (L) and former world champion Sonny Boy Jaro (R). ![]() |
