SERVANIA, MELINDO LEAVE TO TRAIN AT WILD CARD GYM

PhilBoxing.com

Undefeated super bantamweight Genesis ?Azukal" Servania (23-0, 9 KO?s), one of the most promising prospects in the ALA stable has left for the United States along with former flyweight challenger Milan Melindo for a week?s training at the Wild Card Gym of celebrated trainer Freddie Roach.

They were accompanied by trainer Edito ?Ala? Villamor and will meet up with ALA president Michael Aldeguer who left on January 2 to finalize the setting up of an ALA Gym in San Diego, California where he plans to have some of their fighters train.
Aldeguer told us that Servania and Melindo will join him in Las Vegas where he has a scheduled meeting with Top Ran promoter Bob Arum and would find time to train at the Top Rank Gym while they are in Vegas.

Respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer told the Manila Standard on Sunday that Servania and Melindo will also travel to Tijuana, Mexico to train at the gym of Mexican legend Erik ?El Terrible? Morales where he expects them to get some excellent sparring with tough Mexican fighters.

Aldeguer disclosed that three names have been suggested as possible opponents for Servania, the 22 year old WBO Intercontinental super bantamweight champion when he headlines the March 1 fight card at the Solaire Resort Hotel and Casino and at present they are leaning towards former WBA super flyweight champion Alexander ?El Explosiivo? Munoz, the 34 year old Mexican who battled world super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz before suffering a 5th round TKO on May 4, 2013 on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr ? Robert ?The Ghost? Guerrero card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Boxing writer Brent Brookhouse reported that Leo Santa Cruz has been one of the more visible fighters of the past couple years, no doubt in large part due to his highly unusual fight frequency as well as an appearance on CBS in his last bout. Santa Cruz took on Alexander Munoz who was a former champion but had moved up in weight late in his career while Santa Cruz was natural at super bantamweight.

He said ?that size and power showed early as Santa Cruz was moving Munoz with his punches and keeping his attention, although Munoz did still stand and try to mix it up? and credited Munoz's heart made for an exciting match.? Santa Cruz ran his record to 24-0-1 with the victory.

Munoz who was an outstanding amateur won the WBC 115 pound title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Japan?s unbeaten Nobuo Nsshiro on May 3, 2007 and retained the belt with another unanimous twelve round decision over Katsushige Kawashina on January 14, 2008.

Munoz lost the title by a twelve round split decision to classy Cristian Mijares before also droppiong a twelve round decision to Japan?s Koki Kameda in a clash for the vacant WBA title on Decmber 26, 2010.
