The two WBO world titleholders from the Philippines are set to defend their belts against challengers from Latin America at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City Saturday. WBO light flyweight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes of the ALA gym and Mexican challenger Sammy ?Guty? Gutierrez both stepped on the scales at the division limit 108 lbs. WBO minimumweight champion Merlito ?Tigre? Sabillo of the ALA gym and challenger Carlos ?Chocorroncito? Buitrago of Nicaragua also weighed in at the division limit of 105 lbs. The weigh-in was held at the Robinson?s Galleria Friday noon. WBO supervisor for the title fights will be Leon Panoncillo. Milan ?El Metodico? Melindo and Jose Alfredo ?Torito? Rodriguez of Mexico both came in at 111 lbs. They will fight for Melindo?s WBO International flyweight title. Nietes vs Guttierez. Sabillo vs Buitrago. Melindo vs Rodriguez. Pagara vs Baez. Banal vs Gonzalez. Jason ?El Ni?o? Pagara and Vladimir Baez of the Dominican Republic also weighed an identical 140 lbs. They will fight for Pagara?s WBO International junior welterweight title. AJ ?Bazooka? Banal and Puerto Rican opponent Lucian Gonzales also were at the same weight at 124 lbs. They will engage in a non-title contest. Jimrex ?Executioner? Jaca weighed 142 lbs while Wellem Reyk of Indonesia was 138 lbs. They will fight in a six rounder. For the four round prelims - Justo Bornilla (132) vs Diover Mangaya-ay (132), Jerwin dela Rosa (118) vs Marlon Arcilla (118), and Rolly Sumalpong (106) vs Jeffrey Alejandre (106). PINOY PRIDE 23: FILIPINOS KONTRA LATINOS will be on November 30, fights start at 6 PM. FOR TYPHOON SURVIVORS: Part of the proceeds for this card will be given to ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya for the relief operations for the typhoon-stricken Eastern Visayas region. The ALA boxers involved in this card also volunteered their services for two days at the ABS-CBN station in Cebu and joined in the repacking of food, water and other aid intended for the typhoon survivors when they were winding down their training in Cebu City.
