NBA -- Rose injured in Bulls' ugly win over Cavs By Kelly Manalo PhilBoxing.com Tue, 12 Nov 2013 CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers, 96-81, in a poorly played game where both teams went cold as the weather outside the United Center Monday night. The first snow of the cold season fell on the ground in Chicago as All-Star point guards Kyrie Irving of the Cavs and the Bulls' Derrick Rose faced each other for the first time. But following some eager anticipation, the billing did not live up to expectations as both players did not play their full potential. Irving finished with 16 points and missed 14 of 19 shots while Rose, a former MVP, also settled for a mere 16 and flubbed 13 of 21 field goals. Both teams started off slow right out of the gate and struggled throughout the 48 minutes of play. Center Andrew Bynum was a force inside for the Cavs early and scored seven easy points while the Bulls went 0-for-5 to fall behind early. Chicago built a 10-point lead in the second quarter before settling with a 45-36 halftime bulge. The sloppy play continued into the second half as the Cavaliers were able to cut the lead down to four points on the scoring of Dion Waiters and Tristan Thompsan. Irving and Rose both tried to put their stamp on the game in the final quarter by driving hard to the basket but getting denied by the big men. Irving did hit a big 3 to bring the Cavs within a point, but the Bulls held their ground and broke away late. All five Bulls starters scored in double figures but the real hero was Mike Dunleavy who chipped in 15 points, including a deep triple that gave Chicago an 81-75 lead with 4:34 left in regulation. The game did not end on a good note for the Bulls as Rose came out in the final 3 minutes and 15 seconds due to what was diagnosed as a "minor" hamstring injury. Even though the game did not live up to the hype, both players and their respective teams will meet again. Hopefully next time, the action will be better.
