NBA -- Spurs edge Curry-less Warriors
By Richelieu Pasco PhilBoxing.com Sun, 10 Nov 2013
SAN FRANCISCO -- Without their star point guard Steph Curry, who missed the match with a bruised bone on his left ankle, the Golden State Warriors put up a good fight against the San Antonio spurs Friday night at the AT&T Center.
But after a closely fought contest, the Spurs held on to a 76-74 squeaker.
Unlike the Warriors, San Antonio had a full and healthy lineup dressed to play but the Spurs shot poorly from the field, 31 of 79, and barely eluded an upset.
Tony Parker led the way with 17 points and four assists while Kawhi Leonard added 13. Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili missed a combined 16 of 22 shots to finish with eight and six points, respectively,
Tony Douglas had 21 for the Warriors off the bench and David Lee added 13. Klay Thompson had a low 11 points after missing 11 of 16 field goals.
"It's a long season and even with Steph out, we still had a chance to win the game. Shows the type of team we have and how much depth we have on this team. The sky is the limit," Douglas told NBA.com after the Warriors fell to 4-2.
The Spurs improved to 5-1, best in the Western Conference and No.2 in the league overall behind the 6-0 Indiana Pacers.
