PETALCORIN RETAINS PABA TITLE WITH 3RD ROUND KNOCKOUT

PhilBoxing.com

Young Filipino southpaw Randy Petalcorin has retained his WBA Pan Asian Boxing Association light flyweight title with a smashing 3rd round knockout of former Thai champion Samransak Singmanasak before a sell-out crowd at the Malvern Town Hall in Melbourne, Australia.

Petalcorin?s co-manager and well-known Australian promoter Peter Maniatis informed the Manila Standard that fight fans ?were in awe over the Filipino?s performance? while Maniatis himself told us ?this was truly a world class performance. Petalcorin will win a World Title he is outstanding.?

A report on the fight said Petalcorin dropped the heavy handed Thai in the first round with a big straight left hand but the Thai veteran beat the count and showed great heart to last the round.

In the second round Petalcorin started to stalk his opponent and hit him with devastating punches that had the crowd on its feet.

In the third round with his confidence sky high Petalcorin went after Samransak using his speed and punching power with shots to the head and body and finally dropped the Thai for the full count with a vicious body shot.

Petalcorin thanked Maniatis for his one month stay in Australia and also thanked powerful business man Sean Buckley whose race horse Sharmus Award who recently won the 3 million dollar Cox Plate. Although Buckley was not at Malvern Town hall since he was on a business trip to Bahrain, Maniatis said he sent his best wishes and indicated he is eagerly awaiting a DVD of the fight.

Buckley is reportedly interested in staging a world title fight of Petalcorin in Australia.

The Filipino who was training in the hometown of ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao under the brothers JR and JC Manangquil in General Santos City trained at Mick Hargreaves BoxingFit gym in Melbourne for almost a month and thanked them for their support.

The 29 year old Singmanasak is a former Thai light flyweight champion and has a deceiving record of 35-20-1 with 27 knockouts while the 21year old Petalcorin entered the ring with a comparatively impressive record of 19-1-1 with 14 knockouts.
