SILVANO IN TITLE FIGHT AGAINST IBF MINIMUM WEIGHT CHAMPION TAKAYAMA

PhilBoxing.com

Silvano.
The Philippines' Vergilio Silvano battles Japan?s IBF minimum weight champion Katsunari Takayama in a title fight in Osaka on December 3.

The 23 year old Silvano is a southpaw and has a record of 17-2-1 with 10 knockouts while Takayama is 30 and parades a record of 25-6 with 10 knockouts.

After losing two of his two of his first three four-round bouts as a professional in 2007, Silvano has strung up 17 wins in a row. He won the vacant WBO Oriental light flyweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Jetly Purisima last September 7.

Well-known promoter Sammy Gello-ani who handles Silvano told the Manila Standard that the young prospect is ?very disciplined, trains hard and is strong.?

Takayama has had a somewhat up and down career. He won the WBC minimum weight title beating Isaac Bustos of Mexico on April 4, 2005 but lost in his first defense against Thailand?s Eagle Dan Junlaphan or Eagle Kyowa on August 6, 2005.

Takayama then won the WBA Interim title with a 9th round technical decision over Carlos Melo of Panama before losing a twelve round split decision to Yutaka Niida on April 7, 2007.
Two years later on July 14, 2009 Takayama earned a crack at WBA champion Roman Gonzalez of Nicaragua and dropped a twelve round unanimous decision before he came back to win an IBF title eliminator with a 6th round TKO of Tshepo Lefele on September 1, 2010 in South Africa.

Takayama next faced tough Nkosinathi Joyi in South Africa with the fight ending in a no contest in three rounds on January 29, 2011 but lost in the rematch by a unanimous twelve round decision in a title fight on March 30 last year.

On October 13 that same year Takayama lost a split decision to Filipino Mateo Handig in a clash for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific title which also served as an eliminator for the NO.1 spot in the rankings.

Takayama got a shot at the IBF title against Mario Rodriguez on March 30 this year in Sinaloa, Mexico and despite being dropped in the 3rd round, recovered to win a twelve round unanimous decision.
