NBA -- Bulls Media Day September 27 By Ronald Menor PhilBoxing.com Mon, 23 Sep 2013 ![]() CHICAGO -- In perhaps the most anticipated season in recent years, the Chicago Bulls will usher in the 2013-14 NBA campaign with its annual Media Day event at the Sheri L. Berto Center in suburban Deerfield. At front and center of all the hoopla is superstar point guard Derrick Rose, who missed the entire 2012-13 season following surgery and rehabilitation of a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on his left knee. Rose, a former MVP, sustained the devastating injury in Game 1 of the Bulls' opening round playoffs series against the Philadelphia 76ers on April 28, 2012. He hasn't seen action since. Without their best player, the Bulls finished the 2012-13 season with a 45-37 won-lost slate. They survived a 7-game brawl against the Brooklyn Nets in the postseason's first round before being eliminated by the defending champions Miami Heat in five games in Round 2. But after a challenging 16 months, Rose is finally back healthy and medically cleared to play with no risk of further injury. In a recent visit to the Philippines, the 24-year old Chicago native told reporters he was excited to return to action and eager to prove that the Bulls are still one of the top teams in the power-laden Eastern Conference in particular and the NBA in general. Besides Rose, the Bulls will bring back the core group of Joakim Noah at center, Carlos Boozer at power forward and Luol Deng at small forward. Also returning are rising 2-guard Jimmy Butler, old hand Kirk Hinrich and the energetic Taj Gibson. In a busy off-season, the Bulls lost spitfire Nate Robinson via free agency to the Denver Nuggets while Richard "Rip" Hamilton was waived. But the Bulls acquired Mike Dunleavy Jr and signed rookies Tony Snell and Erik Murphy. (Ronald Menor) Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ronald Menor. |
