ANOTHER MISMATCH IN THE OFFING?
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 10 Sep 2013
In what appears to be another mismatch, Filipino Ranel Suco who has a record of 15-7-2 with 6 knockouts will face former Romanian 2004 Athens Olympian Viorel Simion in a fight on the WBC World Cup card at the 51st WBC Convention in Thailand on November 8.
Simion has a record of 16-1 with 7 knockouts with his only loss suffered when he lost the WBC International title to Lee Selby of Britain who had a record of 16-1 with 6 knockouts last July 13.
Southpaw Suco is ranked No. 5 super bantamweight in the last ratings of the Games and Amusements Board while Simion is ranked No. 8 in the world by the WBC in the featherweight division.
Apparently, Suco who is handled by Brico Santig earned the title shot against Simion after he won the vacant WBC Asian featherweight interim title last February 16 when he overcame unheralded Prell Tupaz who reportedly had a miserable record of just 8 wins against 21 losses and 4 draws.
The 31 year old Simion who is nicknamed ?Bombadier? advanced to the third round of the Athens Olympics before dropping a close 35-39 decision to South Korea?s Jo Seok Hown and in his pro career scored a 9th round knockout of Jun Talape on July 9, 2011 before scoring an impressive 4th round TKO over Ryan Sermona on November 29, 2012.
