PAGARA STOPS THAI WISARUTH IN PINOY PRIDE XXI

PhilBoxing.com

The Pride of Maasin City "Prince" Albert Pagara continued his winning streak by outclassing Khunkhiri Wor Wisaruth of Thailand at the undercard of the Pinoy Pride XXI at Solaire Resort Hotel and Casino, Pasay City last night. He joined the success of WBO minimumweight champion Merlito "Tiger" Sabillo who stopped Colombian Jorle Estrada in the 9th round.

It was the 17th win in as many professional bouts for this rising boxing star from the fabled ALA Gym of Cebu City. Wisaruth suffered his 5th setback in 15 fights with one draw. Pagara shook the Thai with two right punches at the end of the first round. It was just the beginning of more stiff punishments to come in the succeeding round.

Pagara showed his superiority by continuing the onslaught in the second round. Using the power of his left jabs to daze Wisaruth, he followed this up with an assault of powerful right hands which cornered the heavier Thai boxer to the ropes. A solid blow dropped the Bangkok native but was able to get up for a mandatory eight.

But Pagara wanted to end the fight early by delivering a right cross to the jaw of Wisaruth following a solid left jab which sent him to the floor for the second time. He was able to rise on his feet but referee Ferdinand Estrella saw the visiting boxer getting enough beating and stopped the bout at 2:29 of round 2.

Pagara thus increased his KO percentage to 70.59 % according to boxrec.com with 12 stoppages in 17 fights. He preserved his immaculate record which dated back to his amateur days when he amassed wins in all his more than 400 amateur fights with 10 gold medals in national tournaments.

He was supposed to fight in his native Maasin City against a foreign opponent for the August 15 fiesta. But the Pinoy Pride XXI bout prevented him from doing so. He is slated to fight again in his hometown on November against either a Thai or Indonesian opponent.
