JOAN GUZMAN BLOWS IT AGAIN, IS 8 LBS OVERWEIGHT DURING WEIGHIN; MOSQUERA COMES IN AT 138 LBS; TITLE FIGHT IS UNCERTAIN

PhilBoxing.com

In a battle of former world champions, Vicente "El Loco" Mosquera of Panama (LEFT) weighed-in at 138 lbs, while veteran Dominican fighter Joan Guzman ballooned to 148 lbs, making uncertain their Friday night (Saturday morning in the Philippines) clash at Kissimmee's Civic Center in Florida.

Both camps are in negotiation to save the fight and a final decision will be made by promotional company All Star Boxing of Florida. A second weigh-in for Guzman is a possibility as well as a monetary compensation for Mosquera.

If the fight somehow pushes through, the vacant WBA interim title might be on the line only for Mosquera. If so, the WBA officials would be:

Third man Max Parker Jr of Florida; Judges Brian Garry of Florida, Carlos Sucre of Venezuela and Alex Levin of Florida. The supervisor would be WBA Tresury Director Alberto Sarmiento of Venezuela.

It is the third time in his controversial boxing career that the 37 year-old Joan Guzman has failed to make weight during a weigh-in ceremony for a world title fight, creating huge problems for the promotion company.

Previously, he was near 4 pounds overweight for his world title match against Nate Campbell and the fight was canceled.

Then, in his fight against Ali Funeka for the IBF title, the Dominican boxer was 9 pounds above the limit. This time he is 8 pounds over of the jr. welterweight division and in all occasions the weight above the limit had been excessive.

Nevertheless, both camps are still negotiating a way out. If the match somehow gets green light, the 12-rounder would be aired in the US by Telemundo and Next TV in Panama.

The Guzman-Mosquera is a production of Henry Rivalta of Acquinity Sports, Felix "Tuto" Zabala Jr. of All Star Boxing and Rogelio Espi?o of Promociones y Eventos del Istmo.
