According to Nielsen Media Research NUTAM data, the game averaged almost 2.5 million viewers with an average audience shares of 18.4%. At its peak, despite the runaway lead by Alaska at the half, the game attracted over 3 million viewers generating a 26 percent % audience share on primetime viewership for TV5. The attendance of paying patrons at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, regarded as the "Mecca of Philippine Sports and Entertainment, was also extremely high with 19,678 fans, not counting complementary ticket holders. The Alaska Aces won Game 1 handily, riding the crest of a blazing start when they led 28-6 at the end of the first quarter and 46-24 at the half, 67-48 at the end of the third quarter to finish winners by 17 points, 87-70. Alaska's "Best Import" candidate Robert Dozier tallied 14 points and 22 rebounds while rookie coach Luigi Trillo also got balanced scoring as six players comtributed in double figures led by RJ Jazul?s 16 points. Ginebra was led by their import Vernon Macklin with 16 points and 14 rebounds but he failed to get any real support from his teammates who were shut down by Alaska?s strangling defense and their own poor shooting and shot selection compounded by lackadaisical defense. The injured heart and soul of Ginebra, Mark Caguioa, said the Kings are not panicking and play best when their backs are against the wall and he expects the team to come back fighting behind their renowned never-say-die spirit to even the series on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena, beginNing at 7:30 p.m. Game 3 on Sunday will returN to the Araneta Coliseum also at 7:30PM on TV 5.
