By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 17 Apr 2013
The Philippines Jaderes Padua has suffered a 6th round knockout at the hands of former WBC super flyweight champion Tomas ?Gusano? Rojas in a clash for the WBC Latino bantamweight title in Mexico.
The WBC reported that it was ?a great return to boxing? by the lanky Rojas who ?showed his superiority over a rival who was a true warrior but couldn?t do much against the great talent of the Mexican fighter.?
The WBC said the fight ended in the sixth ?when Rojas landed a vicious left hook followed by a spectacular uppercut that sent Padua to the canvas? prompting referee Gelasio Perez to call a halt and declare Rojas the new WBC bantamweight Latino Champion.
Rojas improved his record to 40-14-1 with 27 knockouts while the 22 year old Padua dropped to 8-2-1 with 45 knockouts.
Rojas who won the WBC super flyweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Kohei Kono on September 20, 2010 and lost by a 7th round knockout when he moved up to bantamweight and faced champion Shinsuke Yamanaka who recently retained his title with a 12th round stoppage of Malcolm Tunacao, had previously dropped a ten round unanimous decision to two division world champion Gerry Penalosa at the Araneta Coliseum on July 2, 2006.
Padua is the reigning WBC Youth Intercontinental super bantamweight champion having won the title with a tenth round split decision over Cristian Abila last September 8.
