NBA -- Black Mamba strikes again, Lakers beat Nets By Reynaldo Seno PhilBoxing.com Thu, 07 Feb 2013 ![]() NEW YORK -- With the storied Los Angeles Lakers in town Tuesday night, Brooklyn's Brook Lopez painted an offensive masterpiece that pushed his often under-appreciated talents front and center under the massive media spotlight. Without injured Lakers big man Dwight Howard to wrestle against in the low post, the 7-foot, 265-pound Lopez deftly handled anyone and any defense the Lakers threw at him. Lopez, a 24-year old star at Stanford who is plodding through his fifth NBA year, sank 11 of 25 field goals for 30 points, grabbed 11 caroms and made three blocks. And with 2:33 left in the fourth quarter, Lopez completed a 3-point play that gave the Nets an 83-82 lead. It seemed like the perfect sequence to cap what would have been a watershed victory for a franchise that has had its share of struggles throughout their maiden season in Brooklyn. But mighty Los Angeles spoiled it all, rallying late to score a thrilling 92-83 decision at the billion-dollar enclave that is Barclays Center. Starring Kobe Bryant, who finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals, the Lakers unleashed a lethal 10-0 run to finish both the game and the Nets. Winners in six of their last seven games, the Lakers improved to 3-1 in their ongoing 7-game road trip. They improved to 23-26 in the overall standings, just 3 1/2 games behind the 27-23 Houston Rockets for the 8th and last playoffs berth in the Western Conference. The triumph, however, came with a steep price as Pau Gasol limped out of the arena in crutches with a right foot injury. A pending MRI will determine the severity of the 7-foot Spaniard's injury. Steve Nash, who steadied the Lakers in the homestretch, finished with 17 points and eight assists and made six of 11 shots. Nash's Nets counterpart - Deron Williams -- wasn't as efficient, ending up with 15 points and six assists while going just 5-for-13 from the field. Lakers forward, Earl Clark, who took over Gasol's starting slot, continues to ease into his new job with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Joe Johnson had a disappointing 11 points for the Nets, who dropped to 28-20 in the Atlantic Division. (RYS) Kobe Bryant slams home two of his 21 points to lead the Lakers past the Brooklyn Nets, 92-83, Tuesday night at the Barclays Center.
