17 year old Indonesian teenage boxer Tubagus Setia Sakti died of a cerebral hemorrhage after losing by an 8th round TKO in a clash for the Indonesian national flyweight championship to Ical Tobiada in a fight televised by TVRI.
The Jakarta Post reported that Tubagus Setia Sakti died on Sunday, one day after he was taken to Indonesian Christian University (UKI) Hospital in Cawang, East Jakarta.
The newspaper said the teenage fighter passed out and suffered seizures.
The security coordinator for the title fight identified as Lojor said ?He [Tubagus] died of a brain hemorrhage at 1:30 p.m.?
Tubagus? coach, Misyanto said his fighter had been in good shape when he entered the ring and ?blamed the referee for not stopping the match after Tubagus raised his hand to concede.?
Another report said that Tubagus ?cornered by his opponent in the eighth round raised both his hands in the air to signify that he had given up. However, the referee failed to stop Ical from landing several clean blows to Tubagus?s head before stopping the fight.?
The Bangkok Post claimed Tubagus who had been a pro for one year was undefeated with a record of of 7-0-0, including 2 TKOs.
The boy?s father, Iwan Falas, arrived at the hospital at about 1 p.m. and later said that he was proud that his son died in the ring.
He said ?We are from poor family. I encouraged him to take up boxing to keep him away from becoming a criminal. I thank God that my son did not die in a mob hit for stealing.?
