PHILIPPINE MEDICAL ASSOCIATION TO CLARIFY POSITION ON PARKINSON?S DISEASE OF PACQUIAO / APRIL FIGHT UPDATE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 16 Jan 2013 The Philippine Medical Association will hold a news conference on Wednesday to clarify the PMA position on the report by one of its directors, Dr. Rustico Jimenez, that he had noticed Manny Pacquiao showing early signs of Parkinson?s disease. Dr. Jimenez made it clear that he hadn?t personally seen Pacquiao and that his statement on dzMM Teleradyo of ABS-CBN was based on what he had noticed on television. At the same time Dr. Jimenez who is president of the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines conceded that he could be wrong. The press conference will be presided over by the president of the Philippine Medical Association Dr. Modesto O. Llamas and will take up several other issues besides the Pacquiao case. Pacquiao is in General Santos City and keeps in shape by playing basketball which is one of his favorite sports. In the meantime, his adviser Michael Koncz said they are still pursuing plans to stage a tune-up fight in April and that he might cancel a planned trip to New York this weekend to meet with Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and instead travel to Singapore, one of the possible sites aside from Macau and Abu Dhabi mentioned as venues for Pacquiao?s ring return on April 20. Koncz said traveling to Mew York was ?my plan but I might get derailed and go to Singapore first.? Arum told us last weekend that Top Rank president Todd duBeof had visited Macau and that there was no venue available for an April fight. He was also scheduled to visit Singapore. However, Arum told the Manila Standard that Singapore was ?not falling over themselves? to stage a Pacquiao fight. However, while Pacquiao as well as Koncz ruled out Manila as a possible venue, a member of Team Pacquiao continues to push the proposal with business tycoon and big sports patron Manny Pangilinan and is reportedly scheduled to meet with one of Pangilinan?s trusted executives later this week to present the financial details of the proposal under which WBO/Ring Magazine and WBC Diamond Belt super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire and WBO/WBA flyweight champion Brian Viloria were also included on the card. Donaire himself told us that won?t happen while Koncz shot down the proposal saying ?we won?t allow it (Donaire and Viloria) to be on the same card. Koncz, referring to Pangilinan said, ?they are businessmen and if they can?t make money they are not going to do it because they will need at least 50 million to host the fight. How are you going to make that back in the Philippines?? Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ronnie Nathanielsz. |
