By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 16 Jan 2013

World Boxing Organization (WBO) president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel, has announced that Benjy Esteves will referee the much anticipated WBO featherweight title defense of Orlando “Siri” Salido (39-11-2, 27 KO’s) against undefeated Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia (30-0, 26 KO’s) at the Theater in Madison Square Garden, New York on Saturday.
The fight will be telecast in the Philippines on a delayed basis by ABS-CBN Studio 23 at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
It will be Salido’s third defense of the title he won in stunning fashion from Puerto Rico’s Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez.
Garcia, younger brother of trainer and former world champion Robert Garcia is ranked No.1
Esteves has worked some big fights last year. He refereed when Adrien Boner scored an 8th round TKO over Antonio De Marco in a WBC lightweight title fight on November 17 and was also the referee when Luis Carlos Abregu stunned previously undefeated Thomas Dulorme top score a 7th round TKO in a battle for the vacant WBC International welterweight title on October 27, 2012.
Esteves also handled the WBA super world light welterweight and WBC light welterweight title fight on October 20 when Danny Garcia won by a 4th round knockout of Erik “El Terrible” Morales.
The judges for the Salido-Garcia fight are Julie Lederman, John Stewart and Don Ackerman, all from United States. WBO supervisor for this bout will be Valcarcel himself.
