NBA -- Short-handed Kings silence Blazers By Alberto G. Montefalcon, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Tue, 25 Dec 2012 ![]() SACRAMENTO -- Without their leading scorer and rebounder -- DeMarcus Cousins -- the Sacramento Kings fashioned out one of their best performances of the season and beat the red-hot Portland Trail Blazers, 108-96, Sunday night at the Sleep Train Arena. Without Cousins' team-high 16.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game average, the Kings employed ball sharing as the main ingredient to success. The Kings turned in a season-high 31 assists which led to a healthy 55.6 percent shooting from the field (45-of-81). Sacramento also netted nine of 19 threes (47.4 percent) "Number one thing was 31 assists. That tells the story right there, not just making shots, but 31 assists for this group after everything we've been through over the past couple of days," Kings head coach Keith Smart told the Sacramento Bee. The 6-foot-11, 270-pound Cousins has been suspended indefinitely for "conduct detrimental to the team." Cousins had a heated verbal altercation with Smart during halftime of the Kings-Clippers tiff Friday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The 9-18 Kings also missed the services of Tyreke Evans (sore foot) and Francisco Garcia (sore lower back). Marcus Thornton paced Sacramento with 22 points. Travis Outlaw darted off the bench with 15 points in 16 minutes, while veteran journeyman John Salmons, an ex-Bull and ex-Buck, had a terrific all around performance of 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. LaMarcus Aldridge tallied 22 points and 11 rebounds for Portland, which shot just 37 of 85 from the field and 7-for-24 from three-point distance. Nicolas Batum registered 17 points and eight assists while rookie sensation Damian Lillard chipped in 15. With their five-game win streak snapped, the Blazers fell back to an even 13-13 mark.
