NBA -- Spurs spoil Nowitzki's return, 129-91
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Tue, 25 Dec 2012

CHICAGO -- Dirk Nowitzki's return to the lineup for the first time since preseason knee surgery turned out to be something he'd rather forget as his Dallas Mavericks got blown out the AT&T Center Sunday night against in-state rivals the San Antonio Spurs.
On the strength of a franchise record 20 3-pointers made, the host San Antonio Spurs demolished the Mavericks, 129-91.
The powerhouse 21-8 Spurs connected on 47-of-84 field goals and 20 of 30 threes. They were led by Danny Green's 25 points with seven 3s. Tony Parker logged 18 and six assists while Tim Duncan had 15 and five rebounds. Kawhi Leonard added 17.
The 12-16 Mavericks were a lame 34-for-74 from the field including just 5-for-14 above the 3-point arc. Point guard Darren Collison paced Dallas with 15 points.
The 7-foot, 245-pound Nowitzki came off the bench and clocked in for just 20 minutes. The 11-time All-Star finished with a modest eight points on 3-for-4 shooting. He went 1-for-1 from 3 and 1-for-2 at the charity stripe.
"I practiced really hard the past couple of days, but this morning I didn't really know (about playing). I felt actually good out there. My mind was OK. My legs were a little heavy after a couple of trips up and down but I thought I fought through it OK. It went better than I would have thought. That;s encouraging for me, but as a team we've got a long way to go. We're not very good defensively, that's obvious. Offensively, our decision making is horrible," NBA.com quoted Nowitzki, who has missed 27 of the Mavs' 28 games.
