Vancouver reacts on Pacquiao loss

PhilBoxing.com

VANCOUVER,CANADA via PCSO - As with all Filipino communities abroad, Pinoys in Vancouver, Canada were saddened and shocked with the devastating defeat of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao to longtime rival Juan Manuel Marquez in their fourth encounter on December 8.

Philippine Consul General for Vancouver Jose Ampeso regards Manny?s loss as a ?lesson for all of us to always be ready and not to be too confident.? He observed that Pacquiao appeared to be very confident in the first two rounds, and after he was sent to the floor by Marquez in the third round, he quickly stood up and charged again.

?According to some, it was karma for changing his religion. His mother, Nanay Dionisia said Manny had been losing sleep and exercise since he changed religions (Ayon sa iba, parang karma dahil nagpalit ng relihiyon. Sabi ng nanay niya, si Nanay Dionisia, yun daw anak niya, kulang sa tulog, kulang sa exercise mula nung nagpalit ng relihiyon),? the consul added.

Ampeso, a Roman Catholic, said that Pacquiao has lost his two fights after being a born again Christian last year. But he said Manny?s being Christian is not to be blamed for his defeat. For him, Manny should not fight again so that there will no more third defeat.

He admitted feeling scared when Pacquiao did not get up at the end of Round 6, ?He was unconscious, and I thought he was gone (Unconscious siya, parang wala talaga).?

Ampeso?s advice to Manny is to retire from boxing and concentrate on his political career. He wants to invite the People?s Champ to Canada, saying that he will be a very potent force to speak up.

?Let him peace out people, do his duty to Filipinos and prepare them for a better future,? he said.

During the anniversary celebration of the Forever Young Seniors Society (FYSS), a community-oriented organization catering to the Filipino-Canadian seniors, several others echoed the consul general?s opinion.

Freddie Bagunu, President of the Philippine Seniors Club, said that Manny should stop boxing and focus on his being a politician. Conchita Lipol, President of the Philippine Zodiac Circle of British Columbia Society, added that the Pambansang Kamao should focus on his family and being a public servant.
On the other hand, Fernando Salanga, President of Philvets and Memorial Cultural Society, said that Manny should drop everything else and concentrate on his boxing. FYSS President

Romy Mercado also said that the eight division world champion should quit showbiz and politics while he still has time to regain his career in boxing.

A local resident, Christian Cunanan, had a different advice for Manny: for him to prepare for his next career in life, being the next Messiah.

Mayor Gregor Robertson invited Pacquiao to visit Vancouver, saying he will give him a Manny Pacquiao Day for the Filipino community to celebrate his coming.
