NBA -- Picture perfect at The Garden

PhilBoxing.com

NEW YORK -- With a meager 5-4 record away from home, the New York Knicks are a very beatable road team. But inside their building, the raucous Madison Square Garden, these very same Knicks are untouchable.

Powered by Carmelo Anthony's shooting, Raymond Felton's playmaking and Tyson Chandler's menacing defense, the Knicks easily handled a gritty Phoenix Suns squad,106-99, Sunday afternoon at the Madison Square Garden.

With an immaculuate 7-0 record at The Garden, the Knicks joined the Miami Heat (8-0) and the Utah Jazz (6-0) as the only teams who have yet to lose in their home floor this season.

The Knicks jumped to a 16-6 start, a lead that would eventually balloon to 69-50 at the 9:13 mark of the third quarter. The no-quit Suns slowly nibbled at the deficit and came to within 103-97, but with just 55.4 seconds left, Phoenix ran out of time and momentum.

"Every game's not going to be a runaway or a blowout for us, You gotta give them credit. They played hard. They were scrapping it out and made a game out of it. We closed it out a got a 'W,' that's what counts, Knicks head coach Charles Woodson told NBA.com

Anthony didn't exactly shoot like a marksman -- just 11-for-27 -- but with four 3s and eight free throws, he drilled a game-high 34 points that was good enough to outlast the Suns. Felton, meanwhile, added 23 while dismantling the Suns with seven assists and zero turnovers. And Chandler, a 7-foot-1 beast in the middle, finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

New York converted only 40 of 90 field goals, but the Knicks hurt the Suns with 12 made treys out of 27 tries. New York also took advantage of 17 trips to the foul line, making 14.

Playing without point guard Jason Kidd, who is nursing lower back spasms, the Knicks lineup got further depleted when the recently unretired and notoriously hot-tempered Rasheed Wallace was ejected late in the first quarter.

But Phoenix couldn't take advantage. The Suns shot 48.8 percent of its field goals, but they were only 8-of-23 above the 3-point arc and 13-of-19 from the free throw striple. And more tellingly, the Suns had 17 turnovers against the Knicks' scarce seven.

Marcian Gortat had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Suns while teammate Shannon Brown added 17.
