KENNY BAYLESS TO REFEREE PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ IV By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 16 Nov 2012 Bayless counts Morales. Internationally respected referee Kenny Bayless has been assigned as third man in the ring for the fourth encounter between ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao and Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, on December 8. Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer also announced that the judges would be Adalaide Byrd of Nevada, Steve Weisfeld of New Jersey and John Keane of Britain. The appointment of only one judge from Nevada follows bitter world-wide criticism of the hugely controversial split decision awarded to Timothy Bradley in his WBO welterweight clash with champion Manny Pacquiao in which all three judges ?CJ Ross, Duane Ford and Jerry Roth were from Nevada. Bayless was the assigned referee for the second meeting between Pacquiao and Marquez which Pacquiao won by a split decision on March 15, 2008. But Bayless is probably best remembered for his stoppage of the Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto WBO title fight at 55 seconds of the 12th round when Cotto who had been dropped twice in the fight was taking a bad beating on November 14, 2009. He also refereed Pacquiao?s rematch with Erik ?El Terrible? Morales in a clash for the WBC International super featherweight title which Pacquiao won by a 10th round TKO on January 21, 2006. Bayless was the referee when Pacquiao ripped IBO welterweight champion Ricky ?The Hitman? Hatton to score a 2nd round knockout on May 2, 2009. Judge Adelaide Byrd who is the wife of Hall of Fame referee/judge Robert Byrd was one of the judges in the heavyweight battle between Wladimir Klitscxhko and Marius Wach last November 10 and was also sitting in as a judge when Danny Garcia knocked out Amir Khan on July 14 this year and the middleweight clash which Sergio ?Maravilla? Martinez won by a twelve round unanimous decision over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr last September 15. The 47 year old Weisfeld from New Jersey was a judge when Danny Garcia scored a 4th round knockout of Erik Morales last October 20 and was one of the judges when Marquez beat Serhiy Fedchenko handily on April 14. He was also a judge when Chad Dawson beat veteran Bernard Hopkins in a WBC light heavyweight title fight on April 28 this year. Britain's John Keane has been classified as a ?Class A Star? referee/judge in Britain. He was assigned as a judge when Julio Cesar Chavez Jr stopped Andy Lee in the 7th round last June 16 and was also a judge in the Vitali Klitschko- Manuel Charr heavyweight title bout in which Klitschko retained his WBC title with a 4th round TKO on September 8.
